CBD test and Hall of Shame: CBD companies that failed the test
They dipped out badly at the CBD test.
Why is it better to take a decision based on our common sense than to get stingy and then blame yourself for it?
In order to represent this, I am going to show you a CBD survey executed earlier on that created a huge stir in the USA. In my personal opinion, it wouldn’t be any different in our countries, either. I will show you why.
Shortly after hemp was legalized in the USA, thousands of CBD products appeared on the shelves of gas stations, supermarkets and drug stores, in the form of drops, lip balms, jelly beans, electric vape, capsules, CBD water and who knows what the hell else. All in all, hemp companies were flourishing – and so were frauds.
“As people were discovering the potential of CBD, so too have the scammers looking to make a quick buck” said Marielle Weintraub, chair of the US Hemp Authority.
As a result, Confidence Analytics, with its cannabis lab authorized in Washington and the co-founder of Leafly Certified Labs have examined about 47 random CBD products.
They chose primarily based on Google search words such as “the best CBD product” or “cheap CBD oil”, although they purchased some products from gas stations and supermarkets, too.
„We wanted to understand which brands have lived up to what they had promised and which ones haven’t”, says Bruce Barcott.
After a three-month testing session Laafy published the results on its website, also offering help to the unsuspecting consumers on how to choose their CBD.
The results of CBD tests from 0 to too much
The good news is that most tested products actually contained CBD, the bad news is that it wasn’t the indicated amount. And a few companies totally took their customers for fools with a zero percent CBD content.
Expressed in numbers:
- 51% of all tested products, that is, only 24 out of 47 lived up to the promised amount of CBD, within 20% of the promised amount.
- 23% of the products, that is, 11 of them did contain some CBD, but less than 80% of the amount promised on the label.
- Shame: 11% of the tested products (5 out of 47) did not contain any CBD at all!
The situation of the industry nowadays
USA
At the end of 2018, the US Hemp Authority as an independent organization was established in order to monitor hemp market, with the interests of consumers in mind. With strict regulatory protocols and third-party audits, only 21 companies have been awarded the seal of certification since the inception of the scheme. Those who choose from the companies on the list can be 100% confident as to quality.
EU
Unfortunately, regulation in the EU is still patchy, so we can only hope that a similar initiative will soon be taken here as well, making it easier to navigate the maze of hemp products.
Now let’s see the most important things to consider according to Leafly Certified Labs:
1) Buy online or use a reliable source
A few tips for online purchasing:
- Avoid shallow websites that are trying to convince you about the beneficial effects of CBD on one single page and then offer you to buy the product at a reduced price. (Most of these are scams.)
- distant and no-name doctor as someone who recommends the product.
- The ones that promise healing from all diseases.
- Always look at their website and their social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube). If they don’t have one or what they have was only created shortly before are better be forgotten.
- It is best if the website has a contact page with a real phone number that you can call (never order from a page that doesn’t even have an email address).
- Money-back warranty is always a plus!
2. Make sure there is a third party document at the product page
Any brand can claim that their products have been tested. However, only the ones that have been actually examined by a third party can justify their effectiveness and purity.
Third party: An independent laboratory that has completed the quality test.
The manufacturers of the best products put a QR code on the bottle, which can be scanned by the consumer to get instant access to the third-party tested result of the product. Great news is that testers are also tested to ensure that consumers get real and reliable results.
3. Look for companies with experience
The study found that the best-performing CBD products tend to be manufactured by companies that are experienced in legal cannabis. Look for brands in early legalization states like Colorado, Nevada or Massachusetts.
They work with the best cannabis and hemp farmers and prioritize the best oil extraction technology. So their business policy is not about making a quick buck, but about building a stable and reliable brand for the long term.
4. Packaging says a lot
If the product looks like something that would stand its ground even in a pharmacy, that is encouraging. Avoid tacky packaging with too many colors or rainbow-cannabis patterns.
5. Organic only!
According to Sally Nichols, president of California-based Bloom Farm, if you’re looking to source certified organic ingredients, chances are good that you’ll consider all the other ingredients as well.
6. Some kinds are better than the others
CBD water seems to be the least trustworthy since CBD oil doesn’t mix with water. CBD oil came in second, while jelly beans and other edible forms were found to be the most reliable in terms of promised CBD dose.
7. You only get what you paid for!
… meaning you should follow the principle of the good sense, since it is not a cheap procedure to extract CBD organically and at a good quality. If somebody still chooses the cheaper one, let it be their problem.
If you have tried CBD products before but the effect didn’t kick in, you should know that it is essential to experiment with the quality and the dosage before finding your ideal one.
Unfortunately, the market is overloaded with shallow quality products, since CBD is a huge trend nowadays and very much in the spotlight.
